Die Filmemacherin Angela Zumpe und der Fotograf Jan Sobottka begeben sich auf eine filmische Spurensuche. Studiert zwischen 1972 – 1982 an der Hochschule der Künste in West-Berlin (heute UdK) bei den »Kritischen Berliner Realisten« Hajo Diehl und Wolfgang Petrick, fragen wir heute: Was ist aus uns und unseren damaligen Kommiliton:innen geworden, die in einer hochpolitisierten Zeit studiert haben?

Ausstellung in der Anhaltischen Gemäldegalerie im Schloss Georgium

Die LICHTBILDER von Angela Zumpe sind während der Renovierung des Georgiums 2019 entstanden, Die Künstlerin hat Strukturen, Überlagerungen und besondere Lichtsituationen, in dem seit 10 Jahren leerstehenden Sommersitz des Prinzen Johann Georg von Anhalt-Dessau, fotografisch festgehalten,

Bevor die Werke der Anhaltischen Gemäldegalerie in die Räume einziehen, werden die LICHTILDER als erstes Zwischenspiel auf dem Weg zur Wiedereröffnung des Georgiums gezeigt. Dazu laden wir Sie und Ihre Freunde herzlich ein,

Kommentar Hans Hütt: »Ihr habt mit Eurer Inszenierung ein spiegelbildliches Echo zu dem Park und seiner Devianz gefunden, mit einem Stück, das in seiner Weitsicht von 1929 einen Blick auf die heutige Lage wirft. Das hat mir ein inneres Gelächter entlockt.
In Folge der jetzigen Situation, dass ihr einen work-in-progress gezeigt habt, habt ihr auf der Metaebene den Sinn dieses Projektes erfüllt; indem ihr das imkomparative Material in einer Montage von Doku, Film und Theater zusammengeführt habt.«

»I liked this fictionalized account of my parents and Lucia very
much. Even though events did not unfold in quite that way,
the film presents the atmosphere of those troubled times
very well. I liked the sympathetic portrait of Lucia, and the
inclusion of Theodor Neubauer and Franz Spencer. (And of
course everyone looks very handsome.) Ich kann deutsch

“Things to come” covers various stations and events in the lives of the Bauhaus Master and designer László Moholy-Nagy and his partners Lucia Moholy und Sibyl Moholy-Nagy. It is the story of a visionary light designer doomed to failure by the cinematic tastes of the masses. Inspired by this artist’s works, projectors and light sources are used to display structures and images upon various surfaces in the exhibition space. Modern digital technology is able to realise these images in the style of the “cinema of the future” envisaged by Moholy-Nagy in the 1930s. Visitors will be able to wander through the scenes, which are staged and arranged within the space as projections of light, image and sound.

Hungarian-born László Moholy-Nagy (1895–1946) was a painter, photographer, typographer and stage designer. Between 1923 and 1928 he taught at the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau. His oeuvre blazed a trail for future media artists, particularly in the fields of fine-art photography, art film, and film advertisment.

„Go over there!“ – This was the saying heard again and again in 1968. Anyone who criticized the Federal Republic during the hot phase of the student revolts could leave. Over to the GDR. But who would have seriously thought of taking this crazy step?

In the documentary film „Transit,“ director Angela Zumpe goes in search of her brother, who left his conservative parental home in West Germany in 1968 at the age of 21 to move to the GDR. Only eight months later he killed himself, without the details of the circumstances being clarified. 40 years after the suicide, the director goes in search of clues and on her journey discovers biographies and stories of people who, like her brother, moved from West to East; among them people who had not yet given up the longing for a „third way,“ a socialism with a human face.
